PROSE was performing the technical project management in the design of the running gears for the new EMUs for the Portuguese Railways.

PROSE engineers performed the running dynamic type test and parts of the noise type test (external noise).
During the complete running dynamic type test according to UIC 518 a new spanish speed record for railway vehicles was accomplished on February 23rd 2001: 359 km/h. As the prototype was only a half-train (one powerhead and six Talgo-coaches), this was also a world-record for locomotive hauled trains.

The engineers from PROSE took the responsibility for the commissioning of the motor- and the trailer-bogies. During this period the commissioning engineers were the main link between the railway company and the design departments of the supplier of the vehicles.

Based on the concept of PROSE the bogie test bench and the test bench for coil springs was designed and built by Messrs. NENCKI. The installation and commissioning of the equipment was performed in the ISR workshop in Haifa Bay under the supervision of PROSE engineers.

Engineers of PROSE, in collaboration with specialists from ENOTRAC, performed the technical evaluation of the proposals for double deck commuter trains and for tilting DMU's. ISR decided to purchase various lots of double deck coaches from Bombardier transportation. Further on PROSE engineers provided consultancy with regard to the possible application of tilting trains on the ISR system.

Engineers of PROSE elaborated the technical specifications for the purchase of the second series of 4-axle light rail vehicles for the Tuen Mun LRT system.

PROSE engineers elaborated the vehicle concept for the new low floor streetcar for various cities in Taiwan. Thes concepts were the basis for the detail design on the vehicles by the local engineers. PROSE supervised the development and design as well as the production of the first prototypes.

PROSE performed the technical project management of the development of the completely new running gear design for the NSB EMU Class 72. The innovative single axle running gears had to be developed under the time constraint of the overall project, without the possibility for prototype tests.
The measuring department of Bombardier Transportation (today part of PROSE) performed the type tests related to the bogie. These tests included measurement of the brake forces as well as of the brake disc temperatures both on the line and on the test bench. Furthermore measurement of the outside running noise the complete running quality type test according to UIC 518 and simultanously the measurement of the mechanical stress in the axles were performed.

For realizing a cost effective and reliable service with maglev trains in commercial far distance services, all mechanical components of the maglev train had to be optimized to meet the relevant requirements. Essential requirements had been lightweight design, reduction of diversity of structural elements and a maintenance adequate design. Further development targets had been the approval of conformity with specified crash and fire protection requirements and an optimized acoustic behaviour.

Development of the undercarriage components by using aluminium – lightweight structures (Al-Profiles and Al-casted components). Consequent design of structural elements similar to a construction kit.
Evaluation of the stress resistance of the Al casted materials by static and dynamic testing as a fundament of the structural design. Dimensioning of complete components by static and dynamic stress analysis
Validation of structural components in static and dynamic tests of complete bogies (experimental approval of stress resistance).

The wheel weighings system type WWF allows the fully automatic measurement of all wheel loads of a 4 axle vehicle in accordance with the procedure as defined in EN 14363.
